ARTIST STATEMENT

In making art glass, I work to express beauty through geometric and organic design.  Creating unique glass is very therapeutic and gives me a peaceful get-away from my caregiving life.  It is a joyful process. 

Art glass begins with an idea that is followed by sketching the design, selecting glass, cutting, grinding, putting pieces in just the right place, cleaning, firing, polishing, and displaying the finished piece.  

Recently, my curiosity has turned to tapestry pieces. I am drawn to the lines and spaces that  are so appealing to the eye and the mixed colors that draw the viewer into the piece.  

Iridescent glass work also fascinates me as I lay out linear designs that reflect the light off the glass instead of having light go through the piece. The iridescent surface surprises the viewer as they glow with radiance. 

While I am influenced by all things around me, designs by Frank Lloyd Wright have strongly influenced my work.  The simple beauty of line and space are pleasing to the eye. Klaus Moje,  who is credited with the technique of using strips of glass laid on edge, has also influenced my work.  These thicker pieces have a crisp linear side and a somewhat organic side because of the way the glass melts. With the addition of organic

crackled design elements, the glass melts into art.

I want the viewer to find beauty and joy as the light reflects or the light shines through my art glass.
